If there is a "female gaze" in post-war Swiss photography, it is that of Monique Jacot. Her universe of images is peaceful, always close to still life, even when it comes to human beings. In her singularity, she often appears melancholic, even elegiac. This "sideways glance" opens surprising perspectives, and it is quite rare that the center dominates. The margins are important, where the space of the insignificant, of the accessory extends. Obliques and diagonals most often determine the compositions - axiality is synonymous with masculinity. But more than that, she looks inward. It is not only "landscapes" that are transformed into "interiors", it is the interiors themselves and the objects that are given a kind of second life. This introspection is perhaps her specialty, her "magic weapon".
