Born in Haute-Savoie in 1965, Laurence Demaison became a self-taught photographer around 1990, after studying architecture. Laurence Demaison's photographic work consists exclusively of self-portraits from 1993 to 2009. The fruit of a long process of experimentation, she makes the most of the multiple technical possibilities of silver photography to create intriguing and singular images, somewhere between beauty and cruelty. She carries out every stage of the process - shooting, developing and printing - exclusively using silver-based techniques, with no post-shooting manipulation. Her photographic work has been widely exhibited in France and abroad, in particular by the Galerie Esther Woerdehoff in Paris, and can be found in numerous private and public collections. Alongside her photographic work, Laurence Demaison regularly draws, and occasionally makes sculptures or objects from pins. Since 2010 she has occasionally used mannequins or dolls.
